Housed in one of the oldest buildings of Old Montreal Bourlingueur Restaurant envelops patrons in the savoury aromas of traditional Alsatian cuisine. French onion soup draped in melted cheese arrives still bubbly from the oven ($9.75), and the escargots fill the dining room with a garlicky, buttery fragrance ($7.95). The Alsatian-style sauerkraut adorns cooked cabbage with a bounty of sausage and juniper seasoning ($21.95). Meanwhile, anise-flavoured tiger shrimp in Pernod sauce ($18.95) competes with the seafood shell ($19.95) for the hearts of seafood lovers. A warm dark-chocolate sauce imparts a decadent finishing touch to the profiteroles ($5.75), and spoons crack the thin crust of melted sugar atop orange crème brûlée ($5.75).

Stone and wine-red walls complement slate accent pieces and wooden columns warmly lit by suspended lampshades. Sated diners can stroll through the neighbouring Pointe-à-Callière Museum or linger at the Old-Port while taking in a sunset over the Saint-Laurent River.
