Henrique Laranjo, chef-owner of Chez le Portugais and a port-wine specialist, invites guests on a gastronomic journey to the Iberian Peninsula with a tasting menu of petiscos, or Portuguese tapas. Diners start off the feast with a soup of the day followed by a refreshing salad before savouring five petiscos carefully selected by the chef. Forks grab house-made calamari and excavate shrimp and turbot from beds of rice, and slow-cooked beef shares plate space with vegetables and mushrooms cooked in a port-wine sauce. For dessert, sweet teeth indulge in house specialties such as pastel de natas flan made with cream and eggs. Customers finish off the meal with a hot beverage, and can also enjoy a glass of port or douro wine with dinner (wine not included in this deal). Soft lightning casts shadows on the blue paintings hanging on beige and red walls, which contrast with white tablecloths.
